Cal Hosts Cardinal On Senior Day

BERKELEY – The No. 2 ranked California men's swimming & diving team will make its final appearance at the friendly confines of Spieker Aquatics Complex on Saturday hosting No. 10 Stanford. The Golden Bears and Cardinal are slated for a noon start, Saturday's dual meet will be streamed on Cal Live Stream-4.
 
Before Saturday's meet, Cal will recognize 15 senior and graduate student-athletes who will be competing at Spieker Aquatics Complex for the final time in their collegiate careers. The group includes Liam Bell, Patrick Callan, Spencer Daily, Hugo Gonzalez, Lucas Henveaux, Chris Jhong, Jacques Laeuffer, Jason Louser, Preston Niayesh, Michael Petrides, Luke Rodarte, Sebastian Somerset, Bora Unalmis, and Reece Whitley.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL
On February 3 the Bears hosted No. 20 USC at Spieker and handily took care of business. Cal came away with a 171-5.-124.5 win over the Trojans, winning 12 of the 14 events.
 
TOP TIMES
Heading into championship season, the Bears rank in the top 10 nationally in several events. Junior Björn Seeliger ranks in the top 7 in the 50 freestyle (18.87), 100 free (41.68), 50 back (20.73), and 100 back (45.23). Lasco is third nationally in the 100 back (44.88) and second in the 200 back (1:39.09). Lasco is also eighth in the 100 individual medley (48.2) and seventh in the 200 IM (1:41.52). Jett is 10th nationally in the 200 free (1:32.41). Dare Rose Is fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:41.01). Reece Whitley is tied for sixth-best in the 100 breaststroke (51.51), and eighth in the 200 breast (1:52.16).
 
GOLDEN DEBUT
Graduate transfer Lucas Heveaux made his California debut against USC in both the 1,000 free and 500 free. He won the 1,000 free with a time of 8:57.64, a season-best time by a Golden Bear in the event this season and the seventh fastest time in the event in program history. He also took second in the 500 free with a time of 4:21.84.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
The Golden Bears opened the year ranked No. 1 in the CSCAA preseason poll. In the latest poll, the Bears are second and received a first-place vote. Cal trails No. 1 Arizona State (450 points) by 28 points. Rounding out the top five: Texas, NC State, and Florida. Cal is one of four teams in the Pac-12 to be ranked in the top-25.
 
AGAINST THE CARDINAL
Saturday marks the 125th time the Bears and Cardinal have competed against each other. All-time the Cardinal own a 102-22 advantage in the series, however, Under Dave Durden the Bears are 8-7 against the Cardinal and have won 8 of the last 10 matchups. Last time, Stanford defeated the Bears 153-141 at Avery Aquatic Center.
