Gadderud Named MPSF Freshman Of The Week

Norwegian Rookie Won Two Events Against Springfield

SEATTLE – As California men's gymnastics prepares for a week of rest before its next meet, the team nonetheless has plenty of reason to stay energized and motivated with the naming of Theodor Gadderud as MPSF Freshman of the Week.

This is the Bears' second weekly MPSF honor of the year, following senior Noah Sano's Specialist of the Week award on Jan. 17.

Gadderud, who hails from Baerum, Norway, took home two event wins last Friday in a virtual meet with Springfield College. His floor score of 13.650 raised his personal best by an impressive 1.100 points, while his high bar total of 13.100 also bettered his PR by .300. Gadderud also made his collegiate debut on vault with a second-place 14.350 and later recorded a 12.500 on parallel bars.

"Theo has been very methodical about his training and his return to competition from his injury (shoulder surgery in Nov. 2021)," head coach J.T. Okada said. "We couldn't be more excited to see the fruition of his labor out there."

Gadderud and the Bears will be back in action on March 4 in a tri-meet with Stanford and Illinois in Palo Alto.
