NOTEWORTHY
- Sam Alajiki (13 points) and Grant Newell (12) paced Cal offensively in Thursday's loss to Washington. Alajiki has scored 11-plus points in three of the past five games while Newell is averaging 11.0 points per game over the last four contests.
- Newell and fellow freshman ND Okafor have continued to take strides this season after being thrust into key rotation roles. Newell, who has started 25 of 28 games, is averaging 8.8 PPG and 4.5 RPG since Dec. 10 while Okafor, who had seven points and six boards in 15 minutes on Thursday, is shooting 48% from the floor in reserve action over the last 17 games.
- Kuany Kuany is averaging 10.1 PPG and 4.6 RPG in the past 16 games. Nine of his 15 double-figure scoring efforts have come during that stretch, including 11 at USC and 14 at UCLA last week. Kuany had previously totaled just four double-figure scoring games in the first 83 games of his career.
- Lars Thiemann and Joel Brown will be playing in their 121st and 119th career games, respectively, on Saturday. The durable duo have only missed four combined games in their Cal careers up to this point.
- The Cougars have won six straight games in the head-to-head series, including a 66-51 contest in Pullman on Jan. 11. Cal only trailed by one at halftime, 31-30, in the first meeting of the season before the Cougars opened the second half on a 15-2 run to pull away.
- Cal's most recent home win against Washington State came on Jan. 9, 2020 (73-66).
