Stadden Takes Third Place In 200-Yard Backstroke
Bears Wrap Up 2023 NCAA Championships In 11th Place
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior
Isabelle Stadden recorded the fourth top-5 finish of her career at the NCAA Championships on Saturday night, taking third place in the 200-yard backstroke as the Cal women's swimming & diving team finished in 11
th place in the team standings.
Stadden completed the race in 1:49.38, just ten one-hundredths of a second out of second place in an ultra-competitive final. Stadden also finished third in the event as a freshman in 2021 while placing fourth last season.
Earlier in the meet, Stadden took sixth in the 100 backstroke, marking her third top-10 finish in the event during her career.
Senior
Rachel Klinker qualified for the B-final in the 200 butterfly and placed 11
th for the Golden Bears.
Cal's 400 freestyle relay team of
Emma Davidson,
Ayla Spitz,
McKenna Stone and Stadden took 12
th with a time of 3:14.02, moving up two spots from their seed in the process.
Overall during the 2023 NCAA Championships, the Bears recorded four top-10 finishes and two top-5 results.
The meet wrapped up a successful season for the Bears, who also placed third at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships and were ranked No. 13 in the final CSCAA poll of the regular season. Cal recorded three conference titles at the Pac-12 Championships, with sophomore
Leah Polonsky winning the 200 and 400 individual medleys and the Bears' 200 medley relay team also taking the crown.
