McMorris Finishes Ninth At Mt. SAC

Decathlete Takes Third, Fourth In Track Events

WALNUT – California track & field senior Hakim McMorris finished ninth in the elite decathlon competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday afternoon, compiling his second-best total ever (7655 points) after two top-five efforts and a personal best in the last five events. The title went to Chula Vista Elite's Harrison Williams, who accumulated a total of 8492 points.

Just like yesterday, McMorris's best event was his first of the day as he raced to a third-place time of 14.09 in the 110m hurdles. A pair of fouls kept his discus mark to 30.86m (101-3), but he acquitted himself well in the pole vault by finishing just under his personal record at 4.60m (15-1). McMorris closed the competition out with a personal-best javelin throw of 49.45m (162-3) and a 1500m time of 4:33.30 that earned him fourth place in the field.

Nearly 50 Golden Bears are scheduled to compete tomorrow at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, starting with senior Jono Pelusi and freshman Parker Terrill in section C of the men's collegiate pole vault at 10 a.m. PT. Two of these entries – junior Claire Yerby (1500m) and freshman Carolina Visca (javelin) will, like McMorris, appear in the elite section of their respective events.
