Cal Adds Williams To Swimming & Diving Coaching Staff
Multiple NCAA Champion, All-American Will Help Oversee Both Men's And Women's Programs
BERKELEY – Kim Williams, a three-time NCAA champion and six-time All-American as a swimmer at Stanford who most recently served as a volunteer assistant coach at Northwestern, has been hired as an assistant coach for California's men's and women's swimming & diving programs, acting director of swimming & diving
David Durden announced Friday.
Williams, who was also a team captain for the Cardinal and a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, was part of Stanford's 200-yard and 400-yard medley relay teams that set American and NCAA records.
"We are excited to welcome Kim to our staff," Durden said. "Anytime you have somebody that has high-level swimming experience combined with high-level academic experience and you take that into the coaching profession – we know that we're going to have a well-organized individual that is passionate about coaching and that has a level of intellect that our swimmers will benefit from each and every day. I'm excited for both our men and women to benefit from Kim's expertise."
Williams was part of Stanford teams that won three consecutive NCAA and Pac-12 championships (2017-19). She was a member of two NCAA championship 400 medley relay teams and another that won a national crown in the 200 medley relay. In addition to earning All-American honors in both relays, she also garnered the nod in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Williams has also competed at two U.S. Olympic Trials.
"I want to thank Dave Durden for the incredible opportunity to join the Cal swimming & diving staff," Williams said. "I am honored to join such a storied program and work alongside world-renowned coaches and exceptional student-athletes. It is a great privilege to play a part in continuing the legacy of success at Cal and I could not be more excited to get started."
Williams earned her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in political science from Stanford in 2019.
