BERKELEY - California track & field will send a program-record number of athletes to the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on May 24-27, as 36 Golden Bears were included among the qualifiers released on Thursday.  The list of men's and women's qualifiers contains the top-48 athletes in each event this year (minus scratches), each of whom will compete at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium in hopes of clinching a coveted top-12 spot to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
"I think our kids came into this season with a desire to compete, and they took notes from what we did the previous year and stepped their game up a bit," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Robyne Johnson. "I'm really proud of the way they competed, particularly at the end of the season."
 
Of the Bears' qualifying marks, 17 were set over their past two meets, with a whopping 13 of those at the Pac-12 Championships alone.
