BERKELEY – Following its second consecutive and 19th overall national championship, the California men's rowing team continued to haul in postseason awards as the varsity eight boat won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's Crew of the Year for the first time since 2017 and head coach Scott Frandsen was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

The varsity eight crew featured Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Coxswain of the Year Luca Vieira, Pac-12 Rower of the Year Ollie Maclean, Frederik Breuer, Campbell Crouch, Angus Dawson, Iwan Hadfield, , Gennaro di Mauro, Gus Rodriguez and Tim Roth. The team went undefeated for the second consecutive season, which featured dual wins over No. 4 Washington, No. 5 Syracuse, No. 6 Northeastern, No. 10 Boston University and No. 14 Wisconsin, in addition to defeating No. 2 Yale and No. 3 Princeton to capture the IRA national championship.

"I'm thrilled that our varsity eight was recognized as Crew of the Year," Frandsen said. "It has been a full-team effort from top to bottom with the varsity eight leading the charge with their relentless consistency and poise.  Every time the crew was tested this year, they rose to the challenge and performed."

Frandsen is fresh off leading his team to back-to-back IRA and Pac-12 Championships. Under his leadership, the first, second and third varsity eights, along with the varsity four, swept the IRAs for the first time in program history on their way to capturing the James Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy, given to the overall team points winner, for the first time since 2016. Frandsen was also recently named the IRCA Coach of the Year and in May won the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, both for the second consecutive season.

"I'm honored to be named Coach of the Year," Frandsen said. "A lot of credit goes to my staff and everyone in our administration that has helped us all year.  We had an outstanding group of student-athletes on the team this year and the generation that came before them laid the foundation for this team culture to be possible.  It has been a lot of fun to guide the group towards the results that we've been able to achieve this year."
