SAN JOSE – California men's gymnastics' Tyler Shimizu finished up competition at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships on Saturday night, recording improvements on all three of his routines as he faced a high-pressure environment featuring the best gymnasts in the nation.

Shimizu's most drastic improvement was on pommel horse, scoring nearly two points higher at 13.200 than his Thursday routine of 11.250. His second-largest jump came on floor, moving from 12.850 to 13.300, while he also recorded a small improvement on parallel bars to 13.100 from 13.050.

Stanford's Asher Hong won the two-day all-around title with a total score of 170.930, followed by the Cardinal's Khoi Young (169.455) and Michigan's Fred Richard (169.311), the latter of whom claimed the two-day high bar crown. Other additions to the U.S. National Team were Stanford's Colt Walker and Riley Loos, Olympians Yul Moldauer and Shane Wiskus, Michigan's Paul Juda and Cameron Bock, and frequent Team USA member Donnell Whittenburg.

Shimizu will now return to Berkeley for his junior season to join a strong squad of top-scoring veterans and accomplished newcomers. The Golden Bears will start their 2024 campaign this winter.
