Jacobs Takes Eighth At European U20 Final
Summer Season Concludes For Rising Sophomore
JERUSALEM – California track & field's
Audrey Jacobs finished up competition at the European Athletics U20 Championships on Tuesday morning, taking to the circle for the women's hammer final after throwing the second-best mark in the qualifying rounds on Monday.
Ultimately, the Dutch native finished eighth with a best throw of 59.72m (195-11) to close out a long 2023 season of competition, which started all the way back on Jan. 27. Valentina Savva of Cyprus took home the gold with a throw of 64.69m (212-3), followed by Germany's Jada Julien (62.92m/206-5) and Hungary's Jázmin Csatári (62.47m/204-11).
One major meet remains for Cal's throwers, as no fewer than four representatives from the program will be represented at the upcoming World Athletic Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Rising junior
Mykolas Alekna (Lithuania, discus), alumna
Camryn Rogers (Canada, hammer) and
Anna Purchase (Great Britain, hammer) and volunteer assistant coach Elena Bruckner (USA, discus) will be representing their respective nations on one of track & field's biggest stages, scheduled this year from Aug. 19-27.
