ANTWERP, Belgium – California men's gymnastics alumnus Yordan Aleksandrov (class of 2018) hopes to claim his first world medal and Olympic bid as he represents native Bulgaria for the ninth time at the upcoming International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Championships, held this year at the Antwerp Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Belgium.

Aleksandrov will start on high bar with Subdivision 5 in Sunday's qualification round as part of the seventh group of all-around competitors (1:00 a.m. PT). Should he finish in the top-24 this weekend, he will move on to the all-around final, which is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m.

"This one is special because it's been exactly 10 years since my first World Championships, which were held in the exact same city and venue," said Aleksandrov.

A two-time All-American on high bar (2016, 2018), the latter year in which he also earned the MPSF crown, Aleksandrov is one of the Golden Bears' top gymnasts in recent memory. He remains atop Cal's modern top-10 lists on high bar (14.800) and still rings (14.300), while also holding the No. 2 spot on parallel bars (14.550) and No. 3 on the all-around list (82.350). Aleksandrov also has 13 other top-10 program scores in the modern scoring era.

Live video of the championships, including individual apparatus streams, will be available on Peacock.
