BERKELEY – Three California women's tennis doubles teams advanced to the semifinals with wins Friday in the Cal Fall Invitational at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts.
 
The annual Golden Bear tournament began with doubles, with the top-seeded pair of senior Hannah Viller Moeller and freshman Mao Mushika defeating UC Santa Barbara's Kira Reuter and Carla Pacot, 8-3, in the Blue or top flight's opening round of 16. Later, the Cal duo beat San Francisco's Katerina Filip and former Bear Erin Richardson, 8-2, to advance to Saturday's semis.
 
In the Gold Flight, the top-seeded pair of Cal newcomers Lan Mi and Tiziana-Marie Schomburg won twice to reach Saturday's semis. In their quarterfinal, the Bears bested Stanford's Chidimma Okpara and Emma Sun, 8-3. The White Flight also produced a Cal doubles semifinalist team, as senior Cami Brown and sophomore Berta Passola Folch beat Gonzaga's Ella Nielsen and Rose Hayes, 8-5, in the quarters.
 
Singles dominated the second half of the day. In the top/Blue Flight, Cal's top-seeded and 98th-ranked Katja Wiersholm beat USF's Filip, 7-5, 6-0, to advance to Saturday's round of 16. Mi, the No. 1 seed in the Gold Flight, also reached Saturday's round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Nevada's Lea Cakarevic that finished under the lights at Hellman.
 
The Cal Fall Invitational continues Saturday, with doubles matches starting at 9 a.m. PT.
