INSIDE THE MATCHUP
  • Oregon (12-3, 4-0 Pac-12) sits atop the Pac-12 standings as the last undefeated team in Pac-12 play, having swept the Los Angeles schools at home and the Washington schools on the road.
  • All four of the Ducks' conference wins have come by single digits, the last three of which have been by five or less.
  • Cal (6-10, 2-3) has defeated Oregon just once in its last 10 meetings -  a 78-64 win in Eugene on Feb. 12, 2022, that was fueled by a 24-point first-half run and a 33-point individual effort from Jordan Shepherd.
  • Head coach Mark Madsen led Utah Valley to a 77-72 road win at Oregon last season on Dec. 20, 2022.

LAST TIME
Jaylon Tyson scored 23 of his career-high 30 points in the second half as Cal erased a 20-point deficit to defeat Colorado 82-78 in Haas Pavilion on Wednesday night. It was the Bears' largest comeback victory since Feb. 14, 2009, when they trailed by 22 in the first half of an eventual 82-75 win over Stanford in Berkeley. On Wednesday, Cal trailed 40-20 with 2:09 remaining in the first half and by 14 at the intermission before taking its first lead, 63-62, on a Tyson dunk with 5:38 left in the contest.

Colorado built a 14-point lead in the first half behind a 15-point effort by Eddie Lampkin Jr, and the Buffaloes were up by 16 points, 52-36, after a J'Vonne Hadley layup with 15 minutes left in the second half. But Colorado went scoreless for almost four minutes while Cal scored 11 unanswered points to start a 20-6 run that pulled the Bears within two, 58-56, with 8:16 left. A 3-pointer by Jalen Cone with 2:32 left put Cal in front for good, 73-70.

NOTEWORTHY
  • Cal's comeback victory against Colorado – its largest in nearly 15 years – was filled with statistical standouts.
    • Cal committed just five turnovers, its fewest in a conference win since Feb. 7, 2015, vs. UCLA.
    • The Bears' 56 second-half points were their most in any half since Dec. 21, 2018 (58 in the second half vs. San Jose State).
    • Nine of Cal's 14 3-pointers were made in the second half. The Bears shot 46.7% from 3-point range compared to 40% from the floor.
  • The Bears are seeking their third straight Pac-12 victory on Saturday. A win would mark Cal's first three-game win streak in conference play since a streak of five in a row from Jan. 21-Feb. 8, 2017.
  • Cal has made at least 10 3-pointers seven times this season, including 14 in Wednesday's comeback win against Colorado. The Bears are second in the Pac-12 in 3-pointers made (9.2) and first in attempts (26.5) per game, shooting 34.7%. They averaged just 4.9 makes and 16.4 attempts per game last season, both ranking last in the Pac-12.
  • Jaylon Tyson's 30-point effort against Colorado was his fifth consecutive game with 20 points or more, which had not been accomplished by a Cal player since Sean Lampley did so in January of 2001. Tyson, who leads the Pac-12 with 20.7 points per game, has shot 58.1% (43-74) during his current five-game stretch of 20-point performances.
  • In the second halves of Cal's wins at UCLA and vs. Colorado, Tyson has amassed 40 points on 15-of-16 shooting from the floor.
  • Fardaws Aimaq's 13-point, 14-rebound double-double at UCLA was his Pac-12-leading 10th of the season. He continues to pace the conference in all but one rebounding category, including rebounds per game (10.6).
  • Rodney Brown Jr. has continued to provide valuable minutes off the bench during his freshman season. He's shooting 53.6% (15 of 28) from 3-point range and has knocked down at least two 3-pointers in each of the past three games while averaging 21.6 minutes in that span.
  • Jalen Celestine is averaging 10.4 PPG in seven starts – including the past six games – compared to 3.5 PPG in four games played off the bench.
  • Jalen Cone made four 3-pointers in the Colorado win, marking his fifth game with at least four makes from deep. He's 15th nationally with 3.25 3-pointers made per game this season, and has totaled 342 in his career.
  • Cal averages 75.5 PPG this season, an 11.2-point increase from its 64.3 PPG average over the previous six seasons (2017-23). It's also a 17.2-point jump from last season's 58.3 PPG.
  • Head coach Mark Madsen announced Tuesday that Devin Askew will miss the remainder of the season with a reinjury to his left foot expected to keep him off the court for approximately 6-8 weeks. Askew, who will pursue a redshirt, played in six games, averaging 6.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG and 2.5 APG.
  • With Askew's intention to pursue a redshirt season after reinjuring his foot, Cal only had three games this season with its quartet of veterans – Askew, Aimaq, Jalen Cone and Keonte Kennedy – active at the same time. Cone has played in a team-leading 128 career games.
