No. 6 Cal Set For Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad

Bears Head To Site Of Pac-12 Championships

BERKELEY – The No. 6 California women's gymnastics team (2-1) is set for Saturday's Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in West Valley City, Utah. The Golden Bears will compete in the final quad meet of the weekend alongside No. 19 BYU, No. 14 Michigan State, and future ACC opponent NC State. First rotation is set for 6 p.m. PT at the site of Cal's final Pac-12 Championships – the Maverick Center.

LAST WEEK
The Bears opened the 2024 season with a second-place finish at last weekend's Mean Girls Super 16. Despite an uncharacteristic performance on balance beam, the Bears had strong showing overall notching a team score of 196.850. Junior Mya Lauzon took home the all-around title and earned a share of the floor and vault title as well.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The Cougars (0-3) will be making the short trip over from Provo, Utah after earning a 195.900 and a fourth-place finish in their quad at the Mean Girls Super 16 last weekend. The Spartans (1-2) also competed in the Las Vegas meet and finished third in their session with a 196.300. The Wolfpack (0-1) opened their season with a dual meet and fell to No. 15 Georgia 196.200 – 194.225.

CAL PICKED THIRD IN PAC-12 PRESEASON COACHES POLL
Cal was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll for the seventh consecutive year.

The top half of this year's poll shook out to be nearly identical to last season's, as No. 4 Utah claimed the top spot with 46 points and five first-place votes and No. 6 UCLA placed second with 43 points and three remaining first-place votes. The Golden Bears followed in third with 43 points and No. 13 Oregon State placed fourth with 30 points. All four programs tied for the Pac-12 regular season title in 2023.

No. 19 Arizona State (22), No. 20 Stanford (19), No. 21 Washington (14) and No. 22 Arizona (10) rounded out the rest of the poll.

FRAZIER, LAUZON NAMED TO PAC-12 PRESEASON WATCH LIST
Sophomore eMjae Frazier and junior Mya Lauzon were named to the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Watch List.

Frazier burst onto the scene in her freshman year, helping the Golden Bears to a historic year that included the program's first Regional Final title and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She earned NCAA All-American Second Team honors in the all-around, vault and floor and broke the program mark for the all-around twice last season. Frazier also became the first Bear to earn a Perfect 10 on the floor exercise and was named a WCGA First Team All-American on the event as well.

Lauzon had a breakout sophomore campaign a season ago, setting a Cal program mark with the Bears' first Perfect 10 on the balance beam and tying the program's all-around mark in the same competition with a 39.700. She earned regular season and NCAA All-American honors on the vault and balance beam and became the first Bear to win a Pac-12 title on beam.
