Kim Named MPSF Freshman Of The Week

Rookie Competed In 3 Events At Cal Benefit Cup

BERKELEY – Fresh off his collegiate debut, California men's gymnastics freshman Carter Kim has been honored as the MPSF's Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Kim was one of three Golden Bear freshmen competing at the Cal Benefit Cup last Saturday, and the only one to appear in three events. After starting off with a score of 13.450 on floor, Kim tied for Cal's best score of the night on any event with a team-leading 14.000 on vault. He closed out his slate with a 12.750 on horizontal bar, also landing a stick.

"Carter did a great job and we're very proud of him," head coach JT Okada said. "He and the other freshmen have been working tirelessly and challenging themselves like upperclassmen. This meet was just the first step for this team – we're excited to keep working in the gym and continuously improve throughout the season."

Kim and the Bears will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 27, on The Farm, joining Stanford and Team USA at the Stanford Open.
