No. 7 Cal Takes 2nd At Mean Girls Super 16
Lauzon Wins All-Around Title
LAS VEGAS- The No. 7 California women's gymnastics team opened the 2024 season Saturday night with a second-place finish at the Mean Girls Super 16. Junior
Mya Lauzon took home the all-around title, and several Golden Bears found the podium.
Cal scored a 196.850 which was only topped by No. 8 Alabama's 197.125. No. 18 Auburn took third with a 196.600 and No. 5 UCLA finished fourth with a 196.550.
The Bears began the night on the uneven bars where they notched their highest team score of the night with a 49.550, which ties the fourth-highest score in program history. Senior

Andi Li each added a 9.900.
Balance beam was the toughest event of the night for Cal, which only amassed a 48.850 on the second rotation. Lauzon led the way with a 9.900 that paced the rest of the competition.
The Bears bounced back in the third rotation with a pair of strong performances from their anchors on the floor exercise. Lauzon and sophomore
eMjae Frazier each tallied a 9.925 to tie for third as individuals and help Cal to a 49.125 team score.
Opening night ended on vault where the Bears capped the contest off with a very strong 49.325. Once again it was Lauzon leading the way with a 9.950 that gave her a share of the even title. The junior would end with three first-place finishes and four total podiums.
Cal now has its sights set on the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in West Valley City, Utah at the site of the Pac-12 Championships – the Maverick Center. Awaiting the Bears will be Michigan State, NC State, and BYU. The meet is set for this Saturday at 7 p.m. PT.
