DAVIS – After a week off from competition, the No. 5 California picked things back up with its third early-season win over No. 18 UC Davis downing the Aggies 11-5 Saturday on the road.

Senior Maryn Dempsey recorded her first three-goal game of the year to lead the Golden Bears (6-1) on offense. Goalkeeper Isabel Williams finished with 13 saves, reaching double figures for the seventh straight time to begin the year.

The Bears got out to a fast start with four different goalscorers giving them a 4-0 lead through one period. Dempsey secured her hat trick before halftime, scoring her team-leading 13th goal of the year off an assist from Williams to cap Cal's second straight four-goal quarter. The Bears led 8-2 at halftime.

Cal made it three straight quarters of outscoring the Aggies in the third. Kate Meyer put in a pair of goals and fellow freshman Julia Bonaguidi scored to put the Bears ahead 11-3 heading into the final frame.

The Bears have now held their opponent to five goals or fewer in three of seven games. They are currently allowing the fewest goals in the MPSF at just 6.1 per contest.

Next weekend, the Bears will be in Irvine for the three-day Barbara Kalbus Invitational. They open the tournament against No. 14 UC San Diego at 5 p.m.
