Newfeld Advances To Day 2 At Winter Cup
Senior Finishes First Day In 13th Place
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – California men's gymnast
Noah Newfeld made his third consecutive appearance at the Winter Cup on Friday, competing in the all-around at the Kentucky International Convention Center for day one of a two-day contest that will culminate in the naming of the U.S. Senior National Team.
Â
Newfeld started his day off strong on parallel bars, posting a 14.200 that was good for sixth place in the competition; he then followed up with a 12.000 on high bar and a 12.350 on floor. The Cal team captain also acquitted himself well on pommel horse with a seventh-place 13.500 before finishing with a 12.350 on rings and a 13.300 on vault.
Â
He now advances to Sunday's session, in which he will need to post an all-around score that, when combined with Friday's score, will move him into the top five to qualify for the national squad.
