STANFORD – California men's gymnastics ended the 2024 regular season in spectacular fashion on Saturday afternoon at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion, posting a season-high score of 404.950 – the fifth best in modern program history – and set two program records to set the tone for the team heading into the MPSF Championships.

No. 2 Stanford earned a team total of 421.150 at the Cardinal's senior night, while No. 1 Oklahoma scored 410.500.

The Golden Bears started off the day on pommel horse, where all five gymnasts scored at or above 13.000 for a combined total of 66.800 and the No. 5 entry on Cal's modern program list. Cal then moved to rings and the first of its program records (69.100) – freshman Jaxon Mitchell started off with a respectable 13.500, while sophomore Theodor Roald Gadderud followed that with a 13.750. Seniors Noah Newfeld and Darren Wong each posted season highs with matching scores of 13.850; however, it was the anchor man Chris Scales who put an exclamation point on the lineup with a personal-best 14.150, sticking the landing to improve his old PR by .550 and rise into a tie for third on the modern program list.

Cal then posted its second-highest score of the season on floor (66.950), led by Roald Gadderud's personal best of 13.950, before heading to parallel bars and a second program record of 69.550. All five of the Bears' gymnasts posted a 13.750 or better, with Newfeld leading the way at 14.100 and Wong recording a season-high 14.050. Wong then continued his standout evening by finishing second overall on high bar with a score of 13.800 before Cal moved to vault, where four of five gymnasts broke 14.000 (including yet another 14.700 by junior Jasper Smith-Gordon) to finish up the meet and cement the team's best score in five years.

"We just did what we've been doing in practice, so the result was not surprising – we deserved it," Scales said. "I'm super happy with this team so far, and I'm excited to see how we finish (the year) off."
