SAN DIEGO – The 12th-ranked California women's tennis team defeated No. 15 San Diego, 4-3, on Saturday at the Hogan Tennis Center to run its win streak to six. Senior Valentina Ivanov won in straight sets at court-two singles to claim her first clinching victory of the season.

"We were pleased to get another road victory this weekend," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "Overall, we did a good job. We started a little slower than we wanted to in doubles, but we adjusted and got the doubles point. For the most part we held the momentum for the rest of the match until we clinched. It was a very solid victory today."

Cal improved to 8-2. USD is 9-4.

In doubles, Cal junior Katja Wiersholm and freshman Tiziana-Marie Schomburg – playing in their first match together – beat USD's Kailey Evans and Christina Nordikyan, 6-3, on court three. A court-two loss for the Bears left court one to decide the doubles point, and the 14th-ranked Mao Mushika and Hannah Viller Moeller didn't disappoint. The Bears bested Elizabeth Goldsmith and Mia Mack, 6-4, to clinch the point.

A rare loss for Cal's 109th-ranked Lan Mi, who fell to Mia Mack, 6-1, 6-1 on court six, tied the match at 1-1. The setback snapped a six-match win streak for Mi, who hadn't lost since Feb. 10. Her record is 28-4.

The 36th-ranked Wiersholm followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Abigail Desiatnikov, and then the 92nd-ranked Mushika topped Jordyn McBride, 6-4, 6-3, to give the Bears a 3-1 lead.

A court-three loss for the Bears made the score 3-2, until Ivanov defeated Goldsmith on court two, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to secure the victory. Cal led USD 4-2, but a court-one loss resulted in the 4-3 final score.

Cal closes out its road trip with a match at No. 4 Pepperdine on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.

"We enjoy every opportunity we get to compete as a team," Augustus added, "and every match we're getting better and better."
