Zheng Climbs In Round Two Of Cabo Collegiate
Cal Senior Tied For 10th After 36 Played
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Sampson Zheng carded a 3-under-par 68 and jumped into the top 10 individually, highlighting the No. 18 California men's golf team's second-round performance at the Cabo Collegiate on Monday.
The Golden Bears (+7) shot 3-over 287 and fell back four spots to ninth place at Twin Dolphin Club. They're seven shots outside of the top five with 18 holes remaining, while No. 9 Arkansas (-9), No. 6 Arizona State (-8) and No. 11 Texas Tech (-6) paced the field.
Zheng, who shot even-par 71 on Sunday, climbed 11 spots into a four-way tie for 10th with the second-round 68 and is five shots behind Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen (-8), the clubhouse leader after 36 holes. Zheng bogeyed his first hole on 5 but was sharp the rest of the way, tallying birdies on 11 and 14 before making a late push up the leaderboard with another pair on holes 2 and 3.
Ethan Fang rebounded from a first-round 75 with an even-par effort on Monday and is tied for 39th.
