Junior Finishes 11th in 60m Semifinal
BOSTON – California track & field's two male qualifiers finished up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday with junior
David Foster and senior
Skyler Magula competing in the 60-meter semifinal and the pole vault, respectively.
Foster took fifth place in his heat with a time of 6.63, good for 11th overall. Although he will not advance to Saturday's final, his finish was good for a spot on the All-America Second Team – the first such honor of his collegiate career. Foster made program history by becoming the first Cal male sprinter to ever qualify for the indoor championships; should he qualify as an individual for the outdoor championships in June, he would be the first sprinter in men's program history to do so since Atlee Mahorn in 1988. In his best event, the 100m, Foster ranks second on Cal's all-time list with a personal record of 10.30.
Magula did not record a mark in his competition; however, by virtue of attending the championships, he earned All-America Honorable Mention status for the second time in his career. He will now turn his attention to the outdoor season, where he ranks in a tie for third on Cal's all-time list with a personal best of 5.52m (18-1.5).
