Jasper Smith-Gordon was named a Regular-Season All-American by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) on Thursday, two days ahead of the upcoming MPSF Championships.
To be recognized, a gymnast must rank among the nation's top eight in an event. Smith-Gordon currently sits at No. 6 in the vault national rankings with an average score of 14.700, a mark that he has hit in four out of five competitions this season. This is Smith-Gordon's second consecutive Regular-Season All-America honor on vault.
"Jasper is an exceptional vaulter," associate head coach
Bryan Del Castillo said. "He has excellent technique and performs vaults that are powerful, clean and consistent. With his leadership, our vault lineup has greatly improved. We're proud of his accomplishments so far and look forward to seeing him compete in the postseason."
In addition to being the Bears' mainstay anchor in the vault lineup, Smith-Gordon also made his collegiate debuts on floor and pommel horse this year, recording personal bests of 13.400 and 13.000, respectively.
Smith-Gordon and the Bears are next set to compete Saturday at noon PT at the MPSF Championships in Norman, Oklahoma.
