5 Bears Named ACWPC All-Americans

Dempsey, Flynn Land 1st-Team Honors

BERKELEY – After helping take the California women's water polo team to its second NCAA final in program history, five Golden Bears were named ACWPC All-Americans on Thursday.

Maryn Dempsey landed her first career All-American nod, debuting on the first team alongside three-time honoree Elena Flynn. Goalkeeper Isabel Williams also earned her third career All-America selection, making the second team for the second consecutive season. Defenders Mallory Reynoso and Rozanne Voorvelt each earned All-America Honorable Mention status after anchoring the nation's top defense alongside Williams.

Dempsey was the only Bear to score in all 26 of Cal's games this season, pouring in a team-high 48 goals. She scored multiple goals on 10 occasions, had six hat tricks, and earned both All-MPSF First-Team and NCAA All-Tournament Team honors. Dempsey finished with a team-best 65 points, ranking fourth among Bears in assists (22) and fifth in steals (12).

Flynn hit the ground running in her first year at Cal, finishing with 44 goals. She led the team with a quartet of four-goal outings, putting away five in just her third game as a Bear in a win over Michigan. Flynn ended the regular season with her second five-goal performance – resulting in an MPSF Player of the Week award – and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Second Team.

It was a career year defending the cage for Williams, who set the Bears' all-time records for single-season saves (326) and career saves (885) while allowing a nation-best 6.7 goals per game. She reached double-digit saves in 23 of 26 outings and set personal bests in both save percentage (.653) and saves per game (12.5). Williams is also one of three finalists for the Cutino Award, given each year to the best male and female NCAA water polo player.

Serving as one of the team's primary defenders, Reynoso earns her first career All-America selection after recording a team-high 15 field blocks and earning the second-most exclusions with 17.

Voorvelt played a huge role on both ends of the pool, leading the Bears with 30 assists and being credited with 17 steals, good for second on the squad.
