Martelli Named To Team USA Coaching Staff

Cal Associate Head Coach To Oversee Sweeps For Women’s Rowing Team

BERKELEY – California women's rowing associate head coach Adrienne Martelli was named to the coaching staff for the United States' 2024 Paris Olympic Team, USRowing, the sport's organizing body, announced Monday. She will serve as the women's sweeps coach, which consists of the women's eight, four and pair events. The U.S. qualified 12 crews for the Olympics, tied with Romania for the most in the world.

Martelli is no stranger to the Olympic Games as she is a two-time Olympian and won the bronze medal in the women's quadruple sculls at the 2012 London Olympics. She is also a four-time medalist at the World Rowing Championships, competing in both the four and quad sculls.

Martelli has also been part of several coaching staffs at the international level. In 2023 at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, she helped lead the women's coxed four, which won the bronze medal and at the Senior World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. She was also part of the staff that coached the women's eight to a silver medal and the women's four, who finished in fourth place.

Martelli just completed her fifth season at Cal and third as associate head coach. She helped guide the Bears to second-place finish at this year's Pac-12 Championships – the program's best finish since 2018. Martelli previously coached at the Princeton National Rowing Association before moving on to Northeastern, where she helped guide the Huskies to three consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championships and three straight NCAA Championship appearances.

Martelli joins former Bears Kara Kohler '14 (U.S.), Inger Kavlie '17 (Norway) and Rowan McKellar '17 (United Kingdom), who all qualified to compete for their respective countries at this year's Olympics.
