Cal Athletics Officially Becomes Member Of Atlantic Coast Conference
BERKELEY – Cal Athletics officially became a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Friday, closing a storied chapter of its history while beginning another one ripe with possibilities and excitement.
The campus announced the move to a new conference last September, but Friday it became official. Cal joins one of the nation's power conferences - over the last three years, the ACC has won more league-sponsored NCAA team titles than any conference in the country. In 2023-24, the ACC captured seven NCAA team titles – by seven different schools.
The ACC features 18 institutions and has been in existence for 72 years. It sponsors 28 sports – 24 of which Cal has a program.
The ACC also excels academically. It has led all FBS conferences in the "Best Colleges" rankings released by
U.S. News & World Report for 17 consecutive years. The ACC's average graduation rate of 96 percent is six points higher than this year's national average.
The following Cal programs will compete in the ACC:
- Baseball
- M/W Basketball
- M/W Cross Country
- Football
- M/W Golf
- Women's Gymnastics
