Jack Iscaro Named Starter For U.S. National Team

Bear Alum, Eagles Veteran Jack Iscaro Set For Eighth Cap At 2024 Pacific Nations Cup

LOS ANGELES – California rugby alumnus Jack Iscaro has been selected to the U.S. National Team's starting 15 for its matchup with Canada this Saturday as the kickoff to the 2024 Pacific Nations Cup. The former Golden Bear will play at the No. 1 prop position in what will be his eighth appearance with the USA Eagles.

The contest is the first of the cup which will feature two pools – a North America/Japan Pool with Team USA, Canada and Japan, and a Pacific Islands Pool with Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. The contest is set for 6p.m. PT on Aug. 31 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles. Fans will be able to watch all matches live on Peacock.

This is the U.S. National team's third contest of 2024. The Eagles have compiled a 0-2 record thus far, taking a close loss to Romania (22-20) and falling to Scotland (42-7). Following the American Series matchup with Canada on Saturday, the Eagles will continue pool play in a faceoff with Team Japan in Saitama, Japan on Sept. 7. Playoff rounds for the Pacific Nations Cup will begin Sept. 14.

Iscaro made his international debut for the Eagles on Nov. 6, 2022 in the team's first-ever matchup with Kenya. He started in the No. 1 slot and helped secure the 68-14 victory for the U.S. side. He has earned seven caps.

Iscaro was a force in the Bears' forward pack while at Cal, helping the program to back-to-back national Varsity Cup XV's championships in 2016 and 2017, and D1A finals appearances in 2018 and 2019. He made numerous starts as a prop for the Bears to earn All-America honors in his senior year. Iscaro currently plays for MLR team Old Glory D.C.

Cal junior Rand Santos was also invited to training camp as part of the Eagles' larger player pool for the series, his first invitation to train with the side after playing with the junior national team at the U20 World Rugby Trophy tournament earlier this summer. Former Bear Sam Golla, class of 2022, is on injured reserve for the Eagles while Cal alum Christian Dyer, class of 2021, is a non-traveling reserve.
