PARIS – Goalkeeper Adrian Weinberg continued his strong play, but the United States men's water polo team fell to Serbia 10-6 in the semifinals of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Friday.

Two days after stopping two penalty shots to lead Team USA to a shootout victory over Australia, Weinberg made 15 saves against the Serbians to keep things close. Fellow Cal alumnus Luca Cupido added a goal for the United States.

Team USA will next play in the bronze-medal match Sunday against Hungary.

Also Friday in men's water polo, Nikolaos Papanikolaou and Greece defeated Australia 15-9 to advance to the fifth-place game Sunday against Spain. Papanikolaou played 12 minutes and took one shot.

Saturday's action will feature Kitty Lynn Joustra and the Netherlands battling against the United States in the bronze-medal match in women's water polo. Emma Wright and Kindred Paul will also be in the water for Team Canada against Greece in the seventh-place game. Medals will also be at stake in the women's 1.500-meter run, in which Georgia Bell will represent Great Britain.
