Golden Bears Host Inaugural Cal Diving Invitational
Cal Prepares For First Home Meet Of Season
BERKELEY- The California diving team opens its 2025 portion of the season by hosting the Cal Diving Invitational on Thursday-Saturday at Legends Aquatic Center.Â
Eight teams will compete in the three-day event. Along with the Bears, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Denver, Fresno State, BYU, Utah and Hawai'i will also be on hand. The action begins at 11 a.m. each day and will be similar to NCAA Zone formatting. The finals will consist of the top 12 divers on 1-meter and 3-meter and the top 8 on platform. USC and UCLA's results will count toward this weekend's dual meets against Cal.Â
Last month, Joshua Thai, Violet Williamson and Jane Raffetto competed in the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Bloomington, IN. Freshman Rebecca Ciancaglini and sophomore Geoffrey Vavitsas traveled to the Minnesota Invitational, where Vavitsas placed second in the platform dive (363.70) and third in the 3-meter (374.70). Ciancaglini was also the first Cal diver to compete at the Junior World Championships in Rio, Brazil, where she represented Italy. She came back with a silver medal in the synchronized 3-meter dive.Â
Earlier this season, Thai became the first Golden Bear to be honored as the ACC Men's Diver of the Week. It was his second career conference honor after once being named the Pac-12 Diver of the Week.Â
