Freshman Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski won in straight sets as Cal dominated singles in the victory over Texas Tech.

Cal Trounces Texas Tech 6-1
SANTA BARBARA – Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski – the newest member of the California men's tennis team – collected the first clinching win of his college career and the Golden Bears swept singles in a decisive 6-1 rout of Texas Tech on Saturday. All five of Cal's nationally ranked singles players won matches, and the freshman from Poland defeated Sebastian Abboud 6-2, 6-2 to secure the victory.

Playing the nonconference dual match at UC Santa Barbara – where Cal will take on the host Gauchos on Sunday – the Bears kept their record perfect at 3-0, including 6-1 and 7-0 thrashings of Saint Mary's to open the season.

The Red Raiders' record is now 2-2.

After dropping the doubles point to Texas Tech, Cal dominated singles – losing just one set – to take the overall match. Cal senior
Alex Chang, ranked 66th, beat Ludovico Vaccari 6-2, 6-2 to even the match at 1-1, and then 32nd-ranked
Theo Dean bested Niksa Arsic 6-4, 6-2 to give Cal a 2-1 advantage.
Timofey Stepanov, ranked 110th, followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Felipe Pagnacco before Lechno-Wasiutynski posted his straight-set result to give Cal the official win with the score 4-1.

Derrick Chen, ranked 102nd, extended Cal's lead to 5-1 with a 7-6(2), 6-4 victory over Thiago Guglieri, and fourth-ranked Carl-Emil Overbeck completed the day when he ousted Piotr Pawlak 6-3, 6-7(5), 1-0(8) on court one.

Cal plays the Gauchos at the Arnhold Tennis Center on Sunday at noon to end its road trip.
