				BERKELEY – All-American
Ruby Swadling scored four goals and 11 different players lit up the scoreboard during the No. 3 California women's water polo team's 17-10 victory over No. 6 Fresno State on Saturday on the first day of the 2025 Cal Cup at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Freshman
Eszter Varro scored two goals in her Cal debut and
Elena Flynn and
Feline Voordouw also notched a pair as the Golden Bears scored the most goals the Bulldogs have allowed in a game since 2021.
Swadling and Flynn also added a pair of assists, as did senior
Rozanne Voorvelt and reigning MPSF Newcomer of the Week
Rosalie Hassett. Goalie
Talia Fonseca had nine saves and three steals.
The teams exchanged goals during the game's first two minutes before Cal (4-0) began to pull away with four unanswered goals over the next seven minutes. Fresno State kept pace to trail 8-4 at the half but the Bears scored two quick goals to start the third quarter and cruised to the victory.
It marked the second time this early season the Bears have defeated the Bulldogs. Cal registered a 13-10 victory last weekend at the Fresno State Polopalooza.
The Bears complete play in the Cal Cup on Sunday against No. 8 Long Beach State.
