STANFORD, Calif. – The California men's swimming & diving team recorded a couple of impressive performances from underclassmen Friday on day one of its tri-meet with No. 3 Arizona State and No. 8 Stanford at Avery Aquatics Center.

Freshman Ryan Erisman got the weekend started by breaking the program's all-time record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 8:43.48 that was good for second place. Lucas Henveaux previously held the record with a time of 8:44.42 that he set this past spring. Cal has seen five different swimmers crack that event's top-10 list in 2025.

Fellow freshman Casper Puggard added a silver-worthy finish as well clocking a time of 1:42.58 in the 200-yard butterfly to hit the NCAA qualification standard.

During the first break between swimming events, a pair of Cal divers placed first and second in the one-meter dive. Junior Jack Clark posted a score of 324.40 and senior Joshua Thai finished right behind him with a 317.55. Clark went on to place third in the three-meter with a score of 308.15.

Cal's first win in the lanes came from sophomore Yamato Okadome who topped the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 51.11, which is the sixth-fastest time in program history and is under this year's NCAA standard of 52.58.

The three teams will now head to Spieker Aquatic Center for the second and final day of the tri-meet tomorrow. First event is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Berkeley.
