Cal, Learfield To Add NIL Content Producer

Leadership Position Will Develop Innovative Content To Connect Student-Athletes With Brand Partners

BERKELEY - Cal Athletics and Learfield announced the addition of a dedicated Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) content producer to the Cal Bears Sports Properties team, reinforcing the university's commitment to empowering student-athletes and expanding brand partnership opportunities through creative storytelling.

The new leadership position will play an integral role in elevating Cal's NIL initiatives by developing innovative content that connects student-athletes with brand partners in authentic and impactful ways. Working in collaboration with Cal Bear Sports Properties, Learfield Studios and Cal Athletics, the NIL Content Producer will help drive creative campaigns, manage storytelling initiatives, and bring the behind-the-scenes of the student-athlete experience to life.

"Our goal is to set the standard for how NIL can be done the right way," said Beth Tafolla-Voetsch, Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, External Relations of Cal Athletics. "By investing in the infrastructure and creative support behind it, we're ensuring Cal student-athletes have every opportunity to build meaningful relationships with partners and elevate their personal brands."

The new position will enhance marketing efforts by combining Learfield Impact NIL services with enhanced access to resources for brand development, strategic content creation, and customized NIL solutions. Additionally, Cal Athletics will have access to Learfield's Compass NIL technology to facilitate deal transactions and gain insights into student-athlete interests that foster authentic brand connections.

"This is another example of Cal's commitment to building a best-in-class NIL program that truly serves our student-athletes," Cal Associate Athletics Director, NIL Justin DiTolla said. "By expanding our creative capabilities through this partnership, we're not only helping student-athletes tell their stories — we're connecting them with meaningful opportunities that reflect the values and innovation of Cal Athletics."

This new role will also unlock fresh NIL opportunities for brand partners like Troutman Amin, LLP, which is enhancing its existing relationship with Cal Athletics to include a custom video content campaign and student-athlete appearances on its podcast. As Troutman Amin steps into NIL for the first time, this collaboration demonstrates how the new content producer position will expand creative partnerships and develop engaging content for Cal's more than 850 student-athletes across 30 sports.

"Cal has shown tremendous leadership in embracing NIL as an extension of its brand and student-athlete experience," said Grant Jones, Senior Vice President & Head of Content at Learfield. "This investment in dedicated NIL content leadership underscores Cal's commitment to innovation and elevating student-athlete voices by developing content that inspires fans, engages partners, and opens new doors for Cal student-athletes."
