Cal Men’s Basketball Signs Dionycius Bakare For 2026-27

Canadian Guard/Forward Brings Strong Prep Experience To Berkeley.

California men's basketball brings in a talented and versatile player to its roster with the addition of Dionycius Bakare on National Signing Day, head coach Mark Madsen has announced.

A native of Vancouver, Canada, the 6-foot-5 guard/forward has been starring on the prep scene at Bella Vista Academy in Scottsdale, Ariz. On the Nike EYBL summer scene, playing with Uplay Canada, Bakare averaged 15.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 13 games. In his final six games of the summer season, he was averaging 18.8 points per game.

"Dionycius possesses a unique skill set that allows him to use his athleticism to get to the rim at will while also being able to knock down shots from the perimeter," Madsen said of Bakare. "'Nyce' also makes his presence felt defensively as an extremely active defender. These attributes have helped him to make one of the largest rises in the recruiting rankings this summer and become one of the most efficient players in the Nike EYBL Circuit. On top of all of this, Nyce is an outstanding teammate and student."

Bakare will join the Cal roster as a true freshman in 2026-27.
