SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Mao Mushika qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship for the second consecutive season when the Cal women's tennis junior advanced to the singles semifinal round at the ITA West Sectional Championships on Friday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
 
The Ichinomiya, Japan, native – seeded second in San Diego and ranked 17th – defeated Pepperdine's fifth-seeded and 97th-ranked Alexia Harmon 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Mushika has already qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship, which the 2024 doubles All-American will compete in for the third time. Both individual NCAA tournaments run from Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Florida. Three Golden Bears have now qualified for NCAAs in Mushika and doubles partner Greta Greco Lucchina as well as Naomi Xu, who will join Mushika in the singles field.
 
Mushika will face USC's eighth-seeded Eugenia Zozaya in the ITA Conference Masters semifinals at 9 a.m. PT on Saturday.
 
The tournament wraps up Sunday.

SEATTLE, Wash. – Two members of the California women's tennis team – senior Berta Passola Folch and sophomore Greta Greco Lucchina – won Friday at the ITA West Sectional Championships to keep their hopes alive of reaching the NCAA Singles Championship.
 
Fourth-seeded and 113th-ranked Passola Folch bested Washington State's Eva Alvarez Sande 6-3, 6-3, while 125th-ranked Greco Lucchina topped UCLA's sixth-seeded and 25th-ranked Kate Fakih 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-0. Cal junior Tiziana-Marie Schomburg fell to Stanford's 58th-ranked Caroline Driscoll 6-2, 6-1 to end her run to the postseason in the round of 16.
 
At noon in Saturday's quarterfinals, Passola Folch takes on USC's fourth-seeded Krisha Mahendran and Greco Lucchina plays Washington's 96th-ranked Erika Matsuda.
 
West sectionals end Sunday.
