No. 6 Bears Shine On Day 1 Of Minnesota Invitational

Cal Sweeps Finals

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 6 California women's swimming & diving team swept every race during the first day of the Minnesota Invitational on Thursday. Two Golden Bears recorded times on the program's top-10 list and a handful more notched NCAA qualifying times.

Cal was nails in the preliminary round and that momentum carried straight over to the evening finals. The 200-yard freestyle quartet of Gracyn Aquino, Lilou Ressencourt, Charlotte Burnham, and Annie Jia earned the first win of the week with a time of 1:29.26 that was just one second shy of a qualifying time.

Freshman sensation Claire Weinstein climbed from fifth to third on the all-time 500 freestyle list with a qualifying time of 4:34.81, which was 4.44 seconds faster than her prelim time. The Bears swept that podium with Ella Cosgrove (4:39.26) and Camille Henveaux (4:41.61) each recording qualifying times to take second and third, respectively.

Cal swept the next podium as well with Teagan O'Dell (1:54.49), Mia West (1:54.77), and Elle Scott (1:57.10) all notching qualifying times in the 200 individual medley. O'Dell etched her name onto yet another top-10 list with the ninth-fastest time in school history and West missed the list by just 0.11 seconds.

Mary-Ambre Moluh (21.79) and Sydney Griscavage (22.13) went one-two in the 50 freestyle sprinting their way into NCAA consideration. Although Moluh did not hit her personal best, her time today would be good for seventh in the all-time leaderboard.

Cal placed first and second in the 400 medley relay to close out the day. The 'A' team of Moluh, Silje Slynstadli, Jia, and West nearly broke the pool record with a qualifying time of 3:28.54. The 'B' team of O'Dell, Scott, Ressencourt, and Weinstein recorded a provisional time of 3:31.96.

The Bears are back in the pool tomorrow for day two of the meet which features the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
