Cal Takes Top Spot In Every Race

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 6 California women's swimming & diving team closed out the Minnesota Invitational on Saturday by sweeping every race to win the overall team event. The Golden Bears finished in first place in every 'A' final this weekend.
 
Cal led the pack with 1,874 points followed by the host Golden Gophers (1,616.5) in second, Harvard (1352) in third, Denver (867.5) in fourth, Rutgers (811) in fifth, and UNLV (584.5) in sixth.
 
A third straight stellar performance in the morning preliminary round saw the Bears earn 17 spots in 'A' finals and they made the most of their opportunities collecting 12 podium finishes.
 
The evening began with the platform finals and in a field of 19 competitors, Ariana Drake found the podium for the second straight day scoring a 245.9 to place third.
 
The first swim final was the 1650-yard freestyle and the Bears saw a couple of historic performances from a pair of freshmen. Claire Weinstein won the event with the third-fastest time in Cal history and in the NCAA this season at 15:52.28. Ella Cosgrove (16:13.97) finished second with the 10th-fastest time by a Bear.
 
Teagan O'Dell (1:52.71) and Finley Anderson (1:54.73) finished on top in the 200 backstroke with a pair of NCAA cuts, and the Bears took the top two spots with two qualifying times in the 100 freestyle as well with Mary-Ambre Moluh (47.43) finishing first and Weinstein (47.70) touching second.
 
Abby Herscu kept Cal's streak alive with her first win of the season finishing first in the 200 breaststroke with a qualifying time of 2:10.96.
 
The Bears took three of the top four spots in the 200 butterfly to close out the individual races. Mia West (1:53.94) and Lilou Ressencourt (1:55.49) took gold and silver with NCAA cuts and Ava Chavez (1:57.47) finished fourth.
 
The fall concluded with Cal's 400-freestyle quartet of Ressencourt, Charlotte Burnham, Gracyn Aquino, and Sydney Griscavage placing first with a time of 3:16.06.
 
Cal will return to the pool in 2026 when it faces USC (Jan. 16) and UCLA (Jan. 17) down in Los Angeles.
