SEATTLE – The California track & field team competed in two events Friday at the Husky Classic, starting off the weekend at the Dempsey in tremendous fashion as both of the day's entries recorded a new top-five entry in the program record books.

For the first time since 2019, Cal's men competed in a distance medley relay competition and put together a standout performance. The squad of Justin Pretre, Isaiah Shaw, Iyan Godwin and Garrett MacQuiddy combined for a time of 9:32.81 that ranks fourth in program history and set a new ACC lead, coming second in the race to the new collegiate-record time of 9:14.10 set by Washington's "A" squad.

Four-and-a-half hours later, sophomore Sophie Tau shaved nearly 39 seconds off her personal-best 5000m time to move up to No. 5 in program history – the fastest by a Golden Bear woman since 2018.

"I'm really proud of everyone that raced today – each of us gave it our all," MacQuiddy said. "The distance team is in a great place right now. We're all looking forward to our first indoor conference meet, and everyone focusing on the outdoor season has been crushing their workouts and long runs. We have a diverse squad from 10,000m all the way to 800m, and I'm confident that everyone will be giving it their all. Our upcoming schedule has some quality competitions that should push all of us to some fast times, more PRs and all-time Cal marks."
