Johnson Named Second-Team All-American
Cal Collects Most Indoor All-America Honors Since 2018
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – California track & field's
Seth Johnson finished up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, claiming his first All-America nod after placing 15th in the heptathlon with 5441 points. Johnson's total was the highest by a Golden Bear at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Mike Morrison's 5872 in 2011.
The indoor redshirt sophomore started off his day with a time of 8.03 in the 60m hurdles, good for sixth place. He followed up with a mark of 4.07m (13-4.25) in the pole vault and finished with a fifth-place time of 2:47.24 in the 1000m.
Mississippi State's Peyton Bair, this year's collegiate leader, took home the title with a facility-record 6013 points.
Johnson, who was named Second-Team All-ACC after taking fifth at the ACC Indoor Championships, is ranked third in Cal heptathlon history. He will now turn his attention to the outdoor season and the decathlon, in which he took the bronze medal at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships.
Cal also clinched its highest number of Indoor All-Americans since 2018 with a total of four, as Johnson joined teammates
Giavonna Meeks (First Team),
David Foster (Second Team) and
Tyler Burns (Second Team) in that category.
