Golden Bears Sign John Camden
Sharp-Shooting Forward Had Breakout 2024-25 Season At Delaware
BERKELEY – John Camden has signed to play for the California men's basketball program in the 2025-26 season. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, joins the Golden Bears with one year of eligibility remaining after stints at Memphis, Virginia Tech and most recently Delaware.
Â
Camden was tabbed to the All-CAA (Coastal Athletic Association) second team and CAA All-Tournament Team in his lone season at Delaware in 2024-25 as he led the Blue Hens in scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (5.5 RPG). He shot a staggering 41.6% from 3-point range, making 96 of 231 attempts, and was a 46.9% shooter from the floor (197 of 420).
Â
"John is a multi-dimensional player who will bring a tremendous level of toughness, experience and versatility to our roster," Cal head coach
Mark Madsen said. "He plays with a competitive edge that aligns perfectly with our culture, and he'll make everyone around him better. John shoots the lights out from beyond the arc and will put the ball on the floor and attack. We're thrilled to have him join the Cal Family and can't wait to get to work with him."
Â
Camden averaged 17.4 PPG and 7.2 RPG in leading 12th-seeded Delaware to an improbable 2025 CAA Tournament championship game appearance. He poured in 36 points on 11-of-15 shooting (8 of 10 from 3) in a quarterfinal win over William & Mary and posted a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double against Campbell in the second round.
Â
The forward started all 36 games last season for Delaware and scored double figures in 29 of them, as well as 20-plus in 10 games and 30-plus in four contests, including a 35-point effort on 9-of-11 shooting from deep at St. John's. Camden had three double-doubles on the season, averaged 2.1 assists – he had five-plus assists four times – and made 78.5% of his free throws (113 of 144).
Â
Camden's collegiate career started in 2021-22 at Memphis, where he played in one game as a freshman before sustaining a season-ending injury. He transferred to Virginia Tech, playing in 37 games off the bench across two seasons (2022-24).
Â
Camden, born in Richmond, Virginia, comes from an athletic family; his three older sisters played collegiate sports (Meg, lacrosse at Ohio State; Heather, lacrosse at Drexel; Anna, basketball at Penn State and Richmond) while his mother, Susan, played basketball at William & Mary. His grandfather played football at the U.S. Naval Academy and his grandmother played field hockey at Gettysburg College.
