High Winds Force Delayed Start; Round 1 To Resume Tuesday

RENO, Nev. – The California men's golf team played just seven holes on the first day of the 2025 NCAA Reno Regional after high winds delayed tee times by more than seven hours at Montreux Golf & Country Club. First-round play was ultimately suspended at 6:10 p.m. PT due to inclement conditions – wind gusts reached 38 miles per hour, and temperatures dropped into the low 40s – with the Golden Bears in 13th place at 12-over-par, scattered across holes 11-15.
 
The first round will resume Tuesday with continuous play into the second round. Start times have not been determined.
 
The Bears – who were originally slated to tee off? hole 1 between 9:25-10:09 a.m. PT Monday – started on holes 4-7? at 4 p.m. PT? instead. Sihao Cong (+2), Charlie Berridge (+2) and Daniel Heo (+4) carded one birdie apiece before play was halted. Cal is only seven shots outside of the top five with two-plus rounds remaining.
 
The top five teams and the low individual not on a qualifying team will advance to a field of 30 teams and six additional individuals that will play in the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad on May 23-28.
