11 Bears Named All-Americans
Cal Places 5 First-Time Honorees On Recognition List
Eleven California rugby players were honored as 2025 D1A All-American selections,
announced Monday by the Collegiate Rugby Association of America. These Golden Bears joined a list of 111 players from 25 different institutions who earned the All-American nod for their performances in the 2024-25 XVs season.
Â
Juniors
Cade Crist and
Rand Santos collected the third All-American recognitions of their respective collegiate careers. Crist made 12 starts as the Bears' hooker in 2025 action and logged five tries. Santos wore the No. 10 shirt in 11 matches this season and tallied 87 points – which tied for the most points contributed on the team – between seven tries, 26 conversion kicks and three penalty kicks.
Â
Senior captain
Charlie Walsh earned the second All-American designation of his career after capping his impressive collegiate playing time with 13 starts in 2025 – the most of any Cal player this season. In his second season as team captain, Walsh led his Bears to a 15-1 overall XVs record that culminated in a national XVs championship title.
Â
Also earning the second All-American nod of their careers were juniors
Max Threlkeld and
Solomon Williams and sophomore
Bryan Bogne. Threlkeld was tied for the team's leading try-scorer with his 11. He started in 11 matches at center, and twice recorded a hat trick of tries in a single match. Williams also made 11 starts this season as the Bears' scrumhalf and contributed seven tries. Bogne played in 12 matches, nine of which he was a starting flanker, and scored a pair of tries.
Â
Five Bears –
Ieremia Ieremia,
Byron Finley,
Seamus Deely,
Oliver Kirk and
Masi Koi – earned All-American status for the first time in their collegiate careers. Senior Ieremia made his collegiate rugby debut this season and went on to start in 12 matches and score three tries as Cal's No. 8. Finley broke into the Bears' starting lineup eight times this season and played off the bench in three more games. The junior recorded a pair of tries, including one in Cal's quarterfinal match against Arizona.
Â
Freshmen Deely, Kirk and Koi came onto the scene and made an immediate impact in their first-year campaigns. Koi tied with Threlkeld for most tries overall, seven of which came in the postseason. He recorded a hat trick in the quarterfinals and two apiece in the semifinals and finals. Kirk played in the most games of any freshmen (13), in which he was the starting loosehead prop nine times. Deely played in 12 matches and made six starts as a lock.
Â
Walsh, Finley, Bogne, Williams, Santos, Kirk and Deely, along with sophomore
Emmett Cook, were also
named to the traveling squad for the CRAA's inaugural East vs. West All-American Showcase this Saturday. The event will feature top players from each region who are vying for selection to USA Rugby age-grade competition this summer.
