Mushika, Alsola Claim Doubles All-America Honors

California women's tennis doubles duo Jessica Alsola and Mao Mushika claimed doubles All-America honors to cap the season when the Golden Bears earned a No. 4 ranking in the last ITA poll of 2024-25.

The Cal duo finished the year with a 15-4 record, including a 12-2 mark in the second half of the season, as well as a spot on the All-ACC Second Team for doubles.

Mushika and Alsola qualified for November's NCAA Doubles Championship early in the season on Sept. 27, when they beat Vanderbilt's Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round of the ITA All-American Championships. Along with the Commodore duo – which ended the year ranked 10th – Mushika and Alsola defeated some of the country's other top doubles teams including Virginia's Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky – who were ranked No. 1 much of the season – NC State's fifth-ranked Maddy Zampardo and Gabriella Broadfoot, Stanford's 21st-ranked Connie Ma and Valerie Glozman, Duke's 23rd-ranked Irina Balus and Elizebeth Coleman, and SMU's 46th-ranked Sophie Llewellyn and Ellie Pittman.

May has been a rewarding month for Alsola, who graduated from Cal last Saturday. In recent weeks Alsola garnered a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and collected the Golden Bear Achievement Award for posting the top grade-point average on the squad. The two Bears earned singles honors in April, when Mushika was named to the All-ACC Second Team and Alsola was named to the All-ACC Third Team.

Along with their final doubles ranking, Mushika (18-12) finished 32nd and Alsola (20-11) wound up 57th in the ITA's last singles poll of the year. Additionally in singles, Lan Mi (25-7) ended the year ranked 45th, while Katja Wiersholm (9-6) was 84th.
