BERKELEY – The California women's tennis team captured three titles Sunday at the Cal Fall Invitational, with Greta Greco Lucchina and Millie Johanna Moerk winning the top-flight doubles final in the morning and then – after a long rain delay – each claiming a singles title in the afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

The third-seeded Golden Bears defeated Sacramento State's second-seeded Reese Walker and Palina Saulevich 8-3 for the Blue doubles crown.

In the top-flight – or Blue – singles final on Hellman's court one, Greco Lucchina faced Iman Khan of Saint Mary's, with the Bear taking the first set 6-2 and the Gael taking the second set 6-4. Meanwhile in the Blue consolation singles final on court two, Moerk won the first set 7-6(4) over the Hornets' Walker, and the two were tied 1-1 in the second set when a steady drizzle caused the suspension of the matches.

Play resumed two and a half hours later, with Walker winning the second set 6-2 on court two to force a 10-point match tiebreaker. Moerk won the tiebreaker to take the final 7-6(4), 2-6, 1-0(5) and collect her second collegiate title in the penultimate match of the day.

The match on court one remained tight and went to a tiebreaker, with Greco Lucchina winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4) to claim her second title of the tournament and complete the Cal Fall Invitational.

"I am proud of the Bears for being resilient and competing with grit throughout the entire tournament," Cal assistant coach Stephanie Kusano Wallace said. "Greta started the new season in prequalifying singles at the ITA All-American Championships last week in North Carolina. For her to maintain a healthy balance between school and athletics and secure two titles here in her second tournament is a testament to the type of student-athlete that Cal produces. A special congrats to Millie for making her college debut in the Cal Fall Invitational and winning two titles, too.

"Mao Mushika and Berta Passola Folch also had an impressive showing at ITA All-Americans and were both one win away from qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship. Laura Cilekova, Naomi Xu and Greta also made their debuts at All-Americans. To have five Golden Bears representing California at the most prestigious opening tournament of the fall is a strong statement. This has been a busy start to the semester for the Bears and we look forward to our best tennis, which is still ahead of us."

Next for the Bears is the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, which they host. The annual event, which like ITA All-Americans is a qualifying tournament for the NCAA singles and NCAA doubles tournaments, runs from Oct. 10-14.
