Seven Bears Named To MPSF All-Academic Team
Four Earn Honor For Third Time
The California men's water polo team had seven student-athletes earn MPSF All-Academic honors, the conference office announced.
Four Golden Bear seniors –
Albert Ponferrada, Nic Mirkovic, Will Kelly and
Ryder Hagan – each secured the award for a third consecutive year. Freshmen are ineligible for the recognition, so each member of that quartet took the honor every year it was possible.
Marci Szatmary was named to the team for the second time in his career, while
Brennan Fuchslin and
Seth Bousfield were first-time honorees.
To be eligible for the recognition, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed at least one full academic year at their current institution and participate in at least 50 percent of his team's contests.
The Bears went 15-8 last season and finished the year ranked No. 4 in the final CWPA national poll.
