Bears Capture Win In Conference Opener

Geralen Stack-Eaton Records First Dual Meet Win As Cal Head Coach

PITTSBURGH – California women's gymnastics captured its first dual-meet win of the 2026 season in the Golden Bears' Atlantic Coast Conference opener at Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. Cal Head Coach Geralen Stack-Eaton recorded her milestone first win as a head coach as the Bears beat the Panthers 195.550-194.975.

Annalise Newman-Achee won the all-around, which was her third podium finish in as many meets and the first time she claimed gold. As a team, Cal won three of the four events.

The Bears got off to a hot start on uneven bars, seeing scores of 9.800+ from all six gymnasts and compiling their highest team event score of the meet with a 49.175. Casey Brown paced the Bears with a 9.875 to take the event win, while Mya Wiley secured a 9.850 to place second. Cal won the rotation to take a lead it would never relinquish throughout the meet.

Brown continued her strong outing on the next rotation, taking a share of the event win on vault with a 9.800. She tied with Bears' vault anchor Kyen Mayhew for the top score. Wiley was awarded a 9.775, good for a share of third place on the apparatus with Pitt's Lailah Green.

Cal faltered slightly on its floor exercise rotation due to uncharacteristic errors, but held onto the advantage over Pitt at the end of the rotation. The back end of Cal's floor exercise lineup bolstered the Bears, with Mayhew and Tonya Paulsson each posting a 9.825, which was good for a three-way tie for second-place with the Panthers' Jaime Pratt.

The Bears bounced back on the balance beam to close out the meet, with Sage Melkonian leading off with a 9.775. Miki Aderinto matched her career high with a 9.825 routine before Newman-Achee performed a 9.875 from the anchor spot to help the Bears clinch the victory.

Cal returns to Berkeley for its home opener next Saturday as the Bears welcome NC State to Haas Pavilion. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. PT and will be shown live on ACC Network Extra. Season tickets are still available for purchase, in addition to single-meet tickets.
