Cal Returns Home to Face Olympic Club

Bears Host Olympic Club for Midday Duel in Berkeley

BERKELEY – California rugby is set to host Olympic Club for a midday contest Saturday in Berkeley. The game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff with a reserve-grade contest set to immediately follow the match.

Olympic Club begins their spring XVs season Saturday in Strawberry Canyon after opening 2026 with a scrimmage against Saint Mary's reserve grade team. The Olympic Club won all three periods over the Gaels reserve team, setting a good foundation to build upon for the upcoming season.

This will be the first time in recent history that Cal and Olympic Club have contested an XVs match, with the last matchup coming on January 27, 2018 in Berkeley, where the Bears cruised to an 87-19 victory. Cal scored 13 tries by 10 different players en route to the victory.

Last Saturday, the Bears rolled to back-to-back victories at the Dennis Storer Classic in Los Angeles, defeating Fresno State 50-5 and UCLA 45-0. Freshman Gur Levy led the Bears against Fresno State with two tries, while seven different players scored against UCLA.

The Bears will continue to lean on senior Cade Crist and sophomore Oliver Kirk in the front row. In the backs, seniors Solomon Williams and captain Rand Santos are expected to take the lead on directing the Bears' attack along with sophomore Filip Edstrom.
