Cal Surges Into Tie for Fifth on Day One of the NIT

The Bears shoot nine under par before play is suspended due to darkness

TUCSON- California men's golf jumped up the leaderboard, closing out the first day of the N.I.T. in a tie for fifth place, before play was suspended in the second round due to darkness.
 
After shooting an even par 72 in the first round, sophomore Ziqin Zhou led the Bears with five birdies in his first 11 holes of round two before play was suspended. He finished the day alone in 10th place. Freshman Xihuan Chang wasn't far behind his teammate, shooting a two under 70 in the first round, finishing the day at three under par, in a tie for 21st.
 
After turning in a one over 73 in round one, freshman Trevor Cox carded two birdies in his first 11 holes of round two, finishing the day at even par. Redshirt sophomore Sihao Cong had a tough first round, shooting a four over 76, but turned it around in the second with four birdies to finish the day at one over par.
 
Redshirt junior Charlie Bundy, playing as an individual, posted a one under par 71 in round one, before carding four birdies in round two to finish the day at three under par in a tie for 21st place.
 
The Bears finished the first round shooting a one over par 289, and are currently 10 under par through 11 holes in round two. The second round will continue tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. PT.
