THE BEARS VS. THE CARDINAL
Stanford ranks ninth overall in the week four Road to Nationals rankings. The Cardinal are third on floor exercise, sixth on both uneven bars and balance beam and 28th in the nation on vault. Stanford hosted Clemson last week at its home venue, beating the Tigers 197.075-196.300. The Cardinal put up its strongest score of the season the week prior at North Carolina, besting the Tar Heels 197.225-196.400. Stanford's one loss came in its season opener at Denver, when the Cardinal fell 196.575-196.475.
Â
Cal and Stanford last met for a dual meet in Haas Pavilion on Feb. 7, 2025 when the Bears downed the Cardinal 197.550-197.400 thanks to a dramatic walk-off 10.000 floor routine from then-senior
Mya Lauzon, her first perfect score on the event.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Cal captured its first home win of the season last Saturday, while Bears' head coach Geralen Stack-Eaton collected her career-first Haas Pavilion win.
Tonya Paulsson claimed the all-around title in her first collegiate meet competing on all four apparatuses, while four total Bears collected three different event titles, with
Casey Brown and
Kyen Mayhew sharing first on vault,
Annalise Newman-Achee taking a piece of first on uneven bars and Paulsson finishing alone in first on floor exercise.
Â
PAULSSON TURNS HEADS
Freshman standout
Tonya Paulsson has garnered attention in her debut collegiate season, amassing five event titles (2 UB, 2 FX, 1 AA) and putting up two 9.925+ routines and seven that scored above a 9.800 in her first season at Cal. Paulsson won the first all-around title of her collegiate career in her first-ever meet competing all four events, earning a 39.225, which is the Bears' best all-around score by a gymnast in 2026. She scored the highest Cal beam routine of the meet with her 9.825 against NC State, which was also her NCAA debut on the event, and won floor with a career-high matching 9.875. She ranks in the nation's top 100 on uneven bars (T-46), beam (T-70) and in the all-around (T-30).
Â
ALL-AROUNDER ANNALISE
Annalise Newman-Achee has collected four podium finishes in as many meets, taking gold at Pitt, silver at the Best of the West and versus NC State, and bronze at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. She began competing in the all-around this season after primarily featuring on uneven bars last season. Last weekend, she set a career-high on floor with a 9.800 and kept her streak of four straight 9.800+ uneven bars routines, sticking her dismount to earn a 9.875 which was good for a portion of the event win. Newman-Achee ranks 39th nationally in the all-around.
Â
BROWN, MAYHEW WIN BACK-TO-BACK VAULT TITLES
Casey Brown stuck her vault against NC State to clinch a season-high 9.850 score, which tied for first on the event with fellow Bear
Kyen Mayhew. It was the second straight meet that Brown and Mayhew shared gold on the event after the pair each received a 9.800 at Pittsburgh for the event win the week prior. Brown and Mayhew helped Cal to its best team vault finish of the season (49.075).
Â
SILVERS SEES CAREER HIGH ON FLOOR
Jayden Silvers set her career-best score on floor exercise last Saturday in Haas Pavilion. She performed a 9.825 from the second spot in the Bears' lineup to help Cal to its strongest team finish on floor this season with a 49.100.Â
