No. 5 Cal Moves Into Second On Day 4 Of ACC Championships

West Earns First Podium

ATLANTA – The No. 5 California women's swimming & diving team pulled into second place Wednesday, the fourth day of competition at the ACC Championships at McAuley Aquatics Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Golden Bears, who ended day three in third place, have amassed 454 points and now only trail five-time defending national champion Virginia, which has 497.

Cal had a successful morning prelim round as the team sent three individuals to A finals, six more to B finals, and had 11 total finalists across the three individual events. The finals portion of the night was equally successful with the Bears recording a top-10 program time in three out of four events.

Finals began with the 200-yard freestyle relay and the team of Mary-Ambre Moluh, Mia West, Sydney Griscavage, and Teagan O'Dell (1:26.29) posted the ninth-fastest time in Cal history to take fifth.

A pair of freshmen showed out in the first individual event of the night with Claire Weisntein (4:37.17) taking fifth in the A final of the 500 freestyle and Ella Cosgrove (4:37.07) winning the B final with the sixth-fastest time by a Bear.

West became the first Bear to grace the podium this week taking third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.30 that's good for fifth in Cal lore. O'Dell (1:54.04) followed just behind her in fourth and Ava Chavez (1:55.81) won the B final.

The day concluded with Moluh (21.67) winning the B final of the 50 freestyle with a time that would've placed her seventh in the A final.

The ACC Championships continue tomorrow with day five of competition featuring 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, and 400 IM. Prelims begin at 6:30 a.m. PT and finals start at 2:30 p.m. PT on ACCNX.
